Green River Trip - May 22-25, 2015

Over Memorial weekend this year, we decided we wanted to do something different and go somewhere we had never been before.  We stayed in Green River, UT at a hotel called River Terrace and invited Nick's parents to come with us.  It was right on the Green River.  We drove down on Friday and checked into our hotel (kids LOVE hotel rooms.  We then went to Crystal Geyser in Green River.  It is located approximately 4.5 miles downstream from Green River.  It is a rare example of a cold water carbon dioxide driver geyser.  It says that the geyser erupts sometimes to a height of 40 meters or more (it bubbled while we were there but did not erupt).  It was beautiful to see the geyser and mineral sediments against the Green River.  It was created by an exploration well drilled I n935 to attempt to locate oil.

We then went back to the hotel and roasted some hot dogs outside (they have some patio furniture and verandas right on the Green River.  We brought the kids' sand toys and they played in the sand and built castles and then we cooked smores.  We got in the hot tub that night.

The next day we went into Moab to do some hiking.  Arches was closed by 11 am from such a high number of people in the park.  We went closer to Moab and hiked the Negro Bill Trail (to the Morning Glory Natural Bridge).  It was beautiful.  I didn't think the boys would like a hike that you had to go through water but that was the highlight of the trip.  It is an out and back trail to an arch - 4 miles roundtrip.  We saw crawdads, played in the water, waded through the water, and had a great hike.  Boston and Easton were ecstatic to carry their own camelpacks this hike (drank ALL the water they both had).  Afetrwards, we stopped at the sand dunes and then headed back to Green River to eat at the restaurant by our hotel.  It had big windows and was right on the river as well.

Our last day, we went down to Goblin Valley.  We were going to do the slot canyon hike (Little Wilde Horse) but were advised not to because of rainstorms.  We then just went to Goblin Valley.  The boys loved running around all the structures and Payten just liked playing in the dirt and walking by herself!  When we first arrived, we sat at the pavilion up top and watched the clouds roll in.  We decided to chance it and head down into the Valley.  Just as we got the bottom and aways from the covered pavilion, it started POURING on us.  We ran for shelter (that clay gets so slippery and we were sliding every which way).  Now we were all wet but decided to wait for the storm to die down (maybe 15 mins) and then the dirt dried up so quickly - you couldn't even tell it had poured.  We spent a couple of hours exploring the rocks and then headed for home.  It was a fun trip!!
