Grandpa Scott....Til We Meet Again!

Merlin H. Scott 1926 ~ 2010 Merlin (Mutt) H. Scott passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2010, with his loving wife of 64 years at his side. The wonderful hospice staff of Utah Hospice were also in attendance. Merlin was born on October 14, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In life Merlin was loved by all who knew him. He was an active member of the LDS Church, and served in many Church and community capacities wherever he was living. He married Evlynn Robinson, his high school sweetheart, on April 29, 1946. Merlin served for a short time in the U.S. Navy. They have four children: Brent (Nancy) Scott; Brad (Kathy) Scott; Shauna (Don) Winegar; Sharon (Jim) Howells. They have 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren they love and adore very much. Merlin is survived by one brother, Arden Scott of Ivins, Utah. Scotty battled cancer during the last year of his life, but he never lost his sense of humor and ability to make everyone he was with feel important and loved. Funeral services will be conducted at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 E. 7800 So. Cottonwood Heights, SLC, Utah, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior at 9:45 a.m. The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Jane Manola and the Infusion staff: Micki, John and Christy of Snow Canyon Clinic and the angel staff of Utah Hospice: Chris Susan, Patti and Ember for their kind care and also to friends and neighbors everywhere. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Merlin Scott's name to The Utah Food Bank or Huntsman Cancer Center. Grandpa Scott us to carry about 3x5 note cards in his front pocket of his shirts (loved colored collared short-sleeve shirts with a front pocket on his left side for his cards). He would write down everything he needed to do...appointments, medication, thoughts for the day - and he often shared his thoughts with people). After he passed away, Grandma Scott let us read the thoughts he had in his pocket the day he died. Some of his favorite ones (and ones we've heard many times) were the following: "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." "A happy union is not one of perfect partners, but the triumph of love over imperfections." "Never lose a chance at saying a kind word to someone every day." "The path that leads to happiness is so narrow that two cannot walk on it unless they become one. "Men always want to be a woman's first love...women have a more subtle instinct...what [they] like is to be a man's last romance." "We come to love not by finding a perfect person but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly."
