Lake Powell with the Palmers and Prisbreys - June 22-June 27

This past weekend, we went to Lake Powell with the Palmers and the Prisbreys and had a BLAST!  The Palmers left on Tuesday to head down.  We met up the Prisbreys on Wednesday and drove to Page, Arizona where we arrived around 2:30 am and slept in the Marriott hotel for a few hours (thanks Dave & Sarah for letting us crash with you in your room).  We got up and met Brett and Amie & fam at the Wahweap Marina around 8:30 ARIZONA TIME BRETT!   Then began the fun!  We did a lot of surfing, wakeboarding, swimming, cliff jumping, and hanging out on the boat.  We all camped at Padre Bay in Cookie Cutter Canyon.  We all had fun but must admit it was the windiest trip we had all been on.  It was fine but harder with the smallest kids.  We even each left our youngest child at home.  Two of the three nights, houseboat neighbors invited us over to have dinner/cook on their boats because I think they felt sorry for Amie (being 6 months pregnant) and seeing the 5 kids on the beach with sand whipping in their faces.  The kids were all troopers and made the most of our trip even in the wind and hot sun.  A few times, we sat and watched a movie on the boat to get their minds off the sand storms (which happened each of the nights we were there).  I'm use to windy afternoons in Lake Powell but this definitely was some STRONG wind this time.  Poor Brett and Amie lost a picnic table, shade tent, and camping tent all due to the strong winds (who knows what else of ours blew away ... we may never know).  The menu and snacks were GREAT!  Boston and I especially enjoyed our chicken, shrimp skewers, and rice night!  MMMM Good!

Boston found another "Thomas Lover" - it was fun to sit and listen to Boston and Eli on the boat talk about all their Thomas trains and listen to their "thomas talk" of "bashing, crashing, whooshing, biffing, etc."  Any moms out there who have seen Thomas the Train movies know exactly what I'm talking about ... they spent hours looking at these two books I brought with us on the boat...made for some good entertainment.

Playing with their Stanley and Whiff trains

Woot Woot!!!

This was the best tube ride I had ever been on ... SLOW AND EASY!!

Boston did NOT NOT NOT want to get out in the water or on the tube or have anything to do with the water other than being on the boat so this ride was against his will and he had a huge smile the entire time!!  Thanks for a SLOW pull...

Nick driving Brett's new boat ... thanks for inviting us on your sweet boat

Finally ... finally ... finally ... after 3 days, I finally got up on the surf board!!!!  Each time I attempted the surf board, I wondered why I couldn't get up like I do on the wake board ... I think I drank half the lake attempting to get up.

We lost the shade tent for a day or so ... Sydney found it in the water and this is Brett, Syd and Brett saving the shade tarp ... only to put it up and have it blow away again :(

Setting up the shade tarp again ... can't live without the shade while you're camping in LP

Our last night enjoying some sparklers

Ice cream time and watching the carp eat anything and everything at the marina while the boys fill up with gas

Boston did not like the water much while we were in Lake Powell.  We kept having to put him in to cool him down but he UNWILLINGLY went each time.  This was the only day that he was 'okay' in the water with dad.  He enjoyed the boat and camping but not so much being in the water. Each time we stopped for a swim break during the day, he told me he was tired and needed to take a nap ON the boat.  Maybe next year, he'll be a water fish like all the other kids.

On the way back to the marina, Boston was dancing and singing away and enjoying the tunes!  What a memorable trip.  Brett and Amie, thanks for getting everything together - we know it's a lot of work and we appreciate you doing everything and inviting us.  We had a blast down there and can't wait for another trip.  Thanks Prisbreys for a fun Powell trip as well.
