Emergency Gallbladder Surgery and Grandma Davis' 80th Birthday Celebration

We arrived home from Mexico/Disneyland on Sunday, October 9th.  On Monday night around 11 or 12, I started having my familiar pain near my gallbladder.  I've had attacks since Easton was born.  They would come and go, flare up and then leave for months at a time.  They suggested surgery at the beginning (a week after Easton was born). I  scheduled to have my gallbladder out last year around Thanksgiving but then at the last minute decided that it wasn't giving me problems so why have it out.  I was so grateful the pain didn't come while in Mexico or California and it waited until we got home.  Monday night, I started having those pains but they never went away a few hours later like my previous attacks had done.  I was very nauseous and starting throwing up.  Around 7 am on Tuesday, I asked Nick to take me to the hospital.  Kay (our sitter) was gracious enough and came to pick the boys up that morning and watch them while we were at the hospital.  Nick took me to the hospital and stayed with me for the next two days.  I felt bad because we had just gotten back from our vacation and then he had to take a few more days off to look after me!  After three rounds of pain meds, they finally kicked in and they did an ultra sound.  My gallbladder was half full of stones and very inflamed.  One stone was bothering my pancreas and causing me to have a mild form of pancreatitis.  The on-call surgeon came in and met with us and told me that we had no choice but it needed to come out.  I was then admitted to the hospital and had the surgery that night.  It is suppose to be a half an hour to an hour surgery and I was in there for a few hours.  They said it was very inflamed and damaged and was causing bile to leak into my body so I needed it out.  They did all the incisions in my belly button so no scarring ;) yeah!!  I had talked to a few people that their recovery was just a few days so I thought I would be back to normal after a couple of days.  Much to my dismay, it took me about a week to a week and a half.  I still can't lift heavy things or bench press at the moment (oh shoot - seeing I do that all the time NOT) but I'm feeling mostly back to normal.  My mom came out for a few days and took care of me and the boys.  She cleaned my house, rented a cleaner and cleaned my carpets, washed my windows, fixed us dinner, etc.  Thanks mom!  I could not have managed that week without you!!  Thank goodness for moms!!  LOVE YOU!   She went home and then Rylee came for a couple of days to help out with the boys and doing anything I needed around the house.  Then Nick was always there from the hospital stay with me and then helping with the boys and managing the house all while working in between as much as he could.  Thanks to family, friends, and wonderful neighbors who brought in meals, drove Boston to/from preschool, came over to put Easton down for his naps (that was the hardest because I wasn't suppose to lift anything over 5 pounds for 2 weeks and Easton did not understand why his mom couldn't love/hold him.)  Now we're back to normal and I appreciate everyone who helped us in any way during the past couple of weeks!!!  Thank you!!

Sunday after my surgery, I was still pretty out of it but went to Nick's grandma's 80th birthday celebration and take family pictures.  They rented out Bicentennial Park near our house for us all to gather and celebrate Grandma Davis' 80th birthday.  Rylee made a special book with all the kids/grandkids letters in with pictures of everyone and part of her history.  It turned out beautiful!!!  These are just a few pics from that day.  I pretty much sat on a chair with my pillow watching everyone (just felt good to get out and actually feel somewhat decent that day).  Happy Birthday Grandma Davis!
