Payten Nichole Scott

Payten Nichole Scott was born on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 5:54 pm.  She was the biggest baby so far (8 lbs 7 oz) and 21 1/2 inches long.  She was due on 2/5/13.  I did not want to be induced so I waited and waited.  On Friday the 8th, I had a doctor appointment that morning where Dr. Terry informed me that I was dilated to a 3 and she seemed ready (he thought she was going to be a week early) but she decided to stay in longer.  Friday, Dr. Terry also informed me that he was going out of town for a few days (I knew she would come while he was gone so we decided to be induced on Saturday morning).  My mom came out early due to the storm and she wanted to be there when she was born and help out with the boys.  Saturday, we waited for the hospital to call.  They were very busy that day with emergencies and c-sections so we didn't get to the hospital until around 3.  They hooked me up to the monitors.  Dr. Terry had previously told me to get the epidural as soon as I got to the hospital because he thought she would come fast.  Well he was right and I waited too long to get the epidural.  They started my pitocin at 4 pm.  I was already having mild contractions but they started to intensify.  The nurse ordered the epidural.  The anesthesiologist came in to administer the epidural and it didn't seem to work so he upped the dosage which didn't seem to work.  He ended up changing the meds to a stronger one which didn't work until about the last 20 minutes of pushing.  Dr. Terry came in and broke my water and things progressed rather quickly.  The labor and delivery nurse came to check me (mind you my epidural is still not working so I can feel every pain at this point).  The nurse went to check me.  Nick and I looked at her face and sensed something was wrong.  She motioned to the aide to get Dr. Terry.  The nurse said she would finish up and go get him.  The nurse then said, "Get him NOW!"  Nick asked what was going on.  Well our little girl decided to come but hand first instead of head first.  The nurse said she had been a labor and delivery nurse for 17 years and she had only had this happen 3 times (the other 2 times, it was just the hand).  This time, it was our baby girl's whole hand and arm up to her elbow!  Dr. Terry said that it was the 'credit card check' - her hand out already begging for money!  Now I can laugh.  At the time, it was not funny.  He said that he had one chance to help get her little arm back in and head first or we would be on our way to an emergency c-section.  Remember ... I am still feeling all the pain at this moment.  Dr. Terry pushed her hand (his entire hand up to his elbow) holding her hand in so her head could come out first.  That is the most pain I've ever endured!  The epidural finally started working and I pushed for about a half an hour when out came the most perfect little angel, Payten Nichole Scott.  I am so grateful for Nick staying by my side throughout the labor.  I think I about broke his fingers off from squeezing so hard contraction after contraction until the epidural kicked in.  He never complained and was very supportive throughout the process.  It was a great experience to have him and I in the delivery room waiting the arrival of Baby Scott #3.  She came and is healthy and happy.

The boys came to the hospital after that to meet their new baby sister.  They were so proud of her and wanted to hold and love her.  I thought Easton would have the biggest adjustment but it has turned out that Boston has been the one to feel neglected and begs for the attention.  Easton is by her side non-stop and wants to kiss her, love her, hold her, stare at her, touch her, etc.  It took Boston awhile to really want to hold her but now loves to hold her.  He still is struggling a bit as we adjust to dividing our attention to three instead of two.  This baby has definitely been the biggest adjustment so far in that I feel hard-pressed to show ALL three kids love and one-on-one time with them.  I'm sure it will get easier as she gets older and isn't requiring full attention with feedings, changings, etc.  We love her so much and are so proud of our family of FIVE now :)  It has taken me a long time to post these pictures as we are still adjusting to newborn phase all over again.

Disregard the many pounds and pounds I put on and all the water retention!!!
