Day 6 - Bridgetown, Barbados

Our last island was Barbados.  By the time the Brits arrived in the 17th centurty, the indigenous Arawaks were long gone.  Yet a crucial piece of evidence remained...a primitive bridge.  Later on, after a new bridge replaced the old one in the very same sport, the area became known as Bridgetown.  Like so many other Caribbean islands at the time, Barbados adopted a plantation culture, cultivating tobacco, coupled with an incredible defense system-26 British forts on the coast-led to its growth.  And though Barbados gained full independence in 1966, the British influence is still very strong in the commonwealth-from the chocolate to china to the national pastime.  Cricket, of course is in and around the capital city of Bridgetown.  In fact the Cricket final game was played the day we were in Barbados (sold out crowd).  Our taxi driver let his wife go for $60 to the game to see it (this game was comparable to the Super Bowl of Football for us).

We had an excursion every single day of the trip and thought our last island that we would just find a taxi and head to a beach.  Our travel agent, Stoney, suggested we go to Crane Beach for some boogie boarding which the guys were thrilled to hear.  We found Marson, our taxi driver, who reminded me a lot of Grandpa Scott (I don't know if it was the hat and pocket, collared shirt or if it was the tenderness in his voice when he talked to us and to his wife on the phone but something reminded Nick and I of Grandpa Scott when we he talked to us). He took us on the scenic way to Crane Beach and showed us a few more beaches (beautiful) there in Barbados.  He showed us the shopping district, homes, and lots of beautiful beaches along the coastline.

Marson took us to Crane Beach and gave us a tour of the resort property then showed us the private elevator to take to the beach.  We then were at the beach, got some chairs and umbrellas, along with a nice cold Diet Coke, and enjoyed an afternoon on the beach in 84 degree paradise.  We caught some waves, cliff jumped, and threw the football around, and soaked up the sun!  It was a relaxing afternoon and such a beautiful beach to sit at and enjoy.

Pink sand beach

Check out this pink sand ... it looked like pink glass seashells everywhere

Nick put this dead crab's shell on him to fool Jodi that he had a crab on him pinching him ... I think she fell for it ;)

That night was our last formal night so we came back and got ready for formal night, had dinner in our dining room and went to some shows.
