Boston's 2nd T-ball Game

Boston and Sydney

We signed Boston up to play in a t-ball rec league through Sandy City (Go Team Red!!).  Nick is the coach and Matt Reeves is the assistant coach.  I will admit I was a little apprehensive of Nick coaching him at first.  Dad's expectations for his son are to be the best he can be (or more than he is - super star).  As many of you know, Boston is our cautious and sensitive little boy who dad is trying to 'toughen up'.  I will say after seeing him at 2 practices and 2 games, I am very very impressed with Nick's ability to have patience with 9 little boys and girls on the t-ball field watching them run past 1st base, throw the ball high into the air and have it land 5 inches in front of them instead of to first base, run from 1st to 3rd to the pitchers mound, sit on the grass and pick it or the dandelions, put their mitts on their heads and dance in the outfield.  I am also very proud of Nick and his relationship with Boston on the field and his constant encouragement to do good and most of all HAVE FUN!  Boston is loving going to games and practice with his dad.  I did coach last week at practice since Nick was busy at work and he asked Nick, "Is mom going to be there tonight or you because I like it better when you coach and not mom."  I thought I did an okay job at practice but apparently he doesn't like his mom's mad baseball skills.  Nick has had an immense amount of patience and I see improvement in all the kids and hopefully that continues throughout their short-lived tball season.  It has been pure joy and entertainment watching the kids (especially my own little boy).  Each team goes through the batting line-up two times then the game ends.

I also love that he is learning a new sport, listening to words of advice from coaches, and learning good values such as sportsmanship, etc.  Nick put our friend Sydney (4 year old girl first on the batting list) and Danielle (5 year old girl first up to bat for the 5 year olds) and Boston asked why do the girls get to go first?  Nick was trying to teach him the ladies always go first.  We were at a friend's house over the weekend blowing up water balloons and Boston got in line and said, "Oh, Kensie is first - girls are first, right dad?"  I love seeing him develop and learn new values.  It has been so fun the past couple of weeks watching him play t-ball!
