Saturday was Easter weekend - I woke up early and headed out near the University of Utah to start the Salt Lake City Half Marathon. I DID not train. This was the 3rd race I had signed up for and did not run. I was determined to finish this time. I had not trained but hoped to finish (Pathetic I know). I didn't have a great time finish but felt accomplished that I crossed the finish line. I ran with my sister Taylor, sister-in-law Whitney, mother-in-law Kathy. We all started together but were soon separated. Whitney was an animal and finished just over 2 hours. My sister and I took 3 hours to finish but it was a fun race to run together. I would do another one but I would definitely train for the next one. I was incredibly SORE the rest of the afternoon and especially the next two days. I could barely walk up but stairs were the worst. Taylor and I ran most of the time til Mile 6 or 7 then I walked sporadically. I have bad knees and I feel them (especially my left knee) when I run. I began to feel them around Mile 9. By Mile 11, I was in a lot of pain but was determined to finish out the race even if it was walking. I was practically walking. My run was slower than my sister's walk! I kept telling her to go (she could have easily shaved off 30 mins of her time if she didn't stay with me the whole time). She finished at exactly 3 hours and I was just behind her at 3:01:58 at a run/walk as my knees ached and had pains each time I would step down on them. It wasn't a great finish time but I felt accomplished that I could say I finally did a half marathon - I can check that off my bucket list. It was really fun to run the whole way with my sister. We just talked and talked for the 13 miles as we would anticipate each mile marker. I definitely don't think I would have crossed the finish line if it wasn't for her. I'm glad we signed up for the race and ran together!
While I was running, Nick took all three kids to Grandma Davis' place for an Easter Egg hunt. They had the Easter bunny there and an Easter Egg hung. We met up afterwards for breakfast at the Pancake House. The rest of the day was spent doing yard work & fixing the Nick's dad's mailbox that someone smashed this past winter. It took quite a long time but he fixed it, did the yard work, and I had a small nap and tried to recoup from the race. I did some last minute Easter shopping then we died eggs with the boys that night and went to bed waiting for the Easter Bunny. Boston was so excited he could barely stand it - he slept only a few hours that night waiting up for the Bunny to come. He was wide awake by 5:30 am.
