For Boston's Spring Break, Nick took off a couple of days and we headed down south to spend some time with the kiddos. I had only been to Zions National Park once with Nick and his family when we were dating and I don't remember much. We took the boys into Zions and hiked to all three Emerald Pools, Weeping Rock and then the Riverside Walk. We hiked them til they were so tired. Boston did excellent - he hiked the whole way by himself (In fact, he kept running ahead of us and we would have to call out to him to slow down and wait for us). Boston hiked most of the time (we carried him back from the Emerald Pools but he walked the rest of the way (he said his favorite hike was the Emerald Pools) - he said he liked the SHORT HIKE the most). Payten was in the backpack from about 1 pm until 8:30 pm when we headed down on the shuttle to our truck. She got out for a break in the middle to eat and a diaper change. She didn't make a peep in the backpack, took a nap, and then when it hit about 8 - she was DONE! She wanted out. We stopped and ate at Amigos in Springdale and headed back to the Brocks to crash for the night. We were all tired and ready for a snooze.
Saturday we got up and listened to conference on the radio / watched it on my phone. I offered "conference dollars" for the kids when they could tell me something important they learned from the conference talks. It really worked! We will be trying this again. They were listening carefully to find something so they could earn their conference dollars. Then you could turn your conference dollars in at the end of the conference for some treats.
We then took them on a long bike ride (they rode bikes while Nick and I ran/walked with Payten in the stroller). We went on the Bloomington Trail and went about 5 miles. They biked til they were too tired. Then we had lunch and headed to Grandma Scott's to swim at the pool, play tennis, and visit with her. The boys begged all weekend to play tennis! It was beautiful but got a bit windy towards the end so we went inside to swim. That night they all fell asleep on the ride back to the Brocks. We carried them into bed again!
Sunday we got up and listened to conference again and I made breakfast before we headed out. We cleaned the house and did some laundry at our friends house. Then we went to a park to have a picnic lunch I prepared then headed back home! Sunday was the warmest day we were there and it felt so good laying in the sun listening to conference and having lunch. What a nice fun weekend - now spring break is over and back to life again! Not sure we are looking forward to year-round school next year!!
